In a new rumour doing the rounds Amazon has apparently coughed up $600 million for the Tomb Raider franchise which would include games, movies, TV rights, merchandise etc. The deal was apparently recently finalised by Embracer Group which owns the Tomb Raider IP after purchasing a number of the western studios formally owned by Square Enix. If it turns out to be true, then it would be Amazon’s second big purchase after acquiring the rights to the Lord of the Rings series. Amazon has yet to confirm this.

Embracer Group bought the rights to Tomb Raider for $300 million just a few months ago and has now just sold them for $600 million, double the original price.

For its part, Crystal Dynamics did not want to make statements in this regard.
