Crystal Dynamics has released the fourth chapter in its series of mini-documentaries exploring the development of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. This time, the team focuses on one of the most important elements of the experience: movement, acrobatics, and traversal.
Titled “Traversal & Movement Reimagined,” the episode explains how the developers studied the classic games to recapture the essence of Lara Croft and bring it into a modern gameplay experience. Jumps, climbing, cartwheels, horizontal bars, grappling, balancing, handstands, and the iconic swan dive will all form part of a movement system designed to showcase the confidence, agility, and athleticism that have always defined the legendary archaeologist.
The team emphasizes that creating a standard jumping animation is not enough: every movement must feel like something only Lara Croft would do. Her speed when moving between ledges, the distance of her jumps, and her acrobatic actions have all been carefully refined to ensure they feel responsive on the controls and remain closely connected to gameplay.
The documentary also reveals several subtle details designed to guide players during exploration. Birds will take flight when Lara approaches, certain fish will swim toward the correct route, and Lara herself will subtly turn her head or body toward important objects and destinations in the environment.
Alongside exploring unknown ruins, fighting wild animals, and searching for treasures, players will also have the freedom to spend time performing acrobatics, practicing handstands, or choosing Lara’s outfit before continuing the adventure.
🎮 Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis promises to combine exploration, action, platforming, and cinematic spectacle without losing the movements and small details that made Lara Croft one of the most recognizable characters in video game history.
