The New Tomb Raider Games Have Been Affected by Amazon’s Cuts

The upcoming Tomb Raider projects may not be going through their best moment. Although the games are still moving forward, Amazon’s internal adjustments in its video game division have reportedly affected the development of Lara Croft’s new adventures.

There are currently two titles in development: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which would serve as a new version of the first game in the series, and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a completely new installment. The first was expected for 2026, while the second would likely arrive later.

The issue stems from the changes Amazon has made to its video game division. The company reduced its investment in several projects, which led to layoffs and cancellations within the company. Although the Tomb Raider games have not been canceled, they have reportedly been affected by this situation.

Phil Rogers, CEO of Embracer, explained that these cuts have changed the way teams are able to work and collaborate. This suggests that the original plans may have been reduced or modified to adapt to the new situation.

Even so, Rogers also said that these changes could have a positive side, as they may help shorten some development processes. For now, both Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst are still in progress. Both titles are planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
