Legacy of Atlantis promises a smarter difficulty system

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis wants every player to experience Lara Croft’s new adventure their own way. The upcoming remake will allow players to adjust different difficulty settings separately, a move designed for those who enjoy mental challenges, exploration, or action, but not necessarily at the same intensity across the board.

The game, scheduled for release on February 12, 2027, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, appears to follow a similar path to previous entries in the modern saga, especially Shadow of the Tomb Raider, where players could independently modify combat, puzzle, and platforming difficulty.

According to Raul Siqueira, the game’s director, speaking during Summer Game Fest, the team learned from the so-called Survivor Trilogy that not every player is looking for the same kind of challenge. Some prefer complex puzzles, while others want to focus on action or move through the story without combat becoming a constant obstacle.

The idea is to deliver a more modular experience. Instead of relying only on the classic easy, normal, or hard settings, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will let players adapt the adventure to different play styles. That approach fits especially well with the identity of the franchise, which has always blended exploration, puzzle-solving, platforming, and combat.

Although the studio has not yet detailed every available option, Siqueira suggested that the system will be very similar to what players have seen in previous games. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, for example, players could make puzzles more demanding, reduce visual assistance, increase combat difficulty, or activate much tougher challenge modes.
