Episode 3 of the Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis mini-documentary series takes us behind the scenes with Crystal Dynamics, Flying Wild Hog, and Alix Wilton Regan to explore how the team recreated some of Peru’s most dangerous and iconic creatures.
Wolves that attack in packs, swarms of bats, bears capable of pulling Lara off ledges, velociraptors with more aggressive behaviors, and, of course, the legendary T-Rex. Each creature has been designed to force players to keep moving, read the environment, and adapt to completely different tactics.
One of the most interesting details is how the developers explain that the animals don’t feel like simple enemies, but threats with personalities of their own. Wolves surround you, bats create chaos, the bear dominates the arena, and raptors become even more dangerous when only one is left alive.
But the real star is the T-Rex. According to the team, this encounter has been expanded far beyond what we saw in Tomb Raider 1996 or even Tomb Raider Anniversary, turning it into a full action set piece: chases, jumps, obstacles, water, constant tension, and a fight that promises to feel like a roller coaster.
Alix Wilton Regan also brings a fun touch to the episode, reflecting on how special it is for an actor to portray Lara in such extreme situations: “How many people get to fight a T-Rex on a Tuesday?”
Everything points to Peru being not just the beginning of the adventure, but a brutal test for Lara. Because after this chapter, one thing is clear: in Legacy of Atlantis, surviving will be just as important as exploring.
