Amazon Prime Video’s highly anticipated Tomb Raider live-action series officially kicks off production on January 19, 2026. Confirming months of speculation, Sophie Turner will step into the legendary role of Lara Croft.

Originally greenlit in May 2024, the series will be spearheaded by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who serves as creator, writer, and executive producer. She’ll share showrunning duties with Chad Hodge, while Jonathan van Tulleken takes on directing and executive producing.

Turner joins the legacy of actresses Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, both of whom previously portrayed Croft on the big screen. Speaking on the role, Turner described Lara as “an iconic character who means so much to so many” and promised to bring her all to the performance.

Waller-Bridge expressed her excitement, praising Turner’s casting and teasing that the series will honor the adventurous spirit of Tomb Raider while exploring bold new stories.

The project is backed by Amazon MGM Studios, Legendary Television, Crystal Dynamics, and Story Kitchen, with an impressive roster of producers behind the scenes.

Fans worldwide can expect a thrilling new chapter in Lara Croft’s journey — combining nostalgia with fresh adventures.
