Amazon is officially gearing up for one of its most ambitious live-action projects yet. Filming for the Tomb Raider series will kick off on January 19, 2026, with Sophie Turner leading the charge as the iconic Lara Croft.
Turner recently shared rare insight into the scale of the project and her commitment to the role. While keeping plot details under wraps, she confirmed that her preparation began back in February 2025, involving nearly a full year of intensive physical training ahead of production.
“I’ve been training for a long time, almost a year, and we start filming in January,” Turner said. “I’m very excited, I feel ready, and I feel very lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon. I’m excited for the world to see what we’re doing with Lara and Tomb Raider. I think it’s going to be something special.”
From a strategic standpoint, Amazon is clearly positioning this series as a flagship IP reboot—high production value, long-term character development, and a fresh take on a globally recognized franchise. With Turner’s preparation and confidence, expectations are already sky-high.
