The New Tomb Raider Admits Using AI During Development

Lara Croft has not officially returned to action yet, but her next adventure is already getting people talking. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the remake of the first major story starring gaming’s most famous archaeologist, has revealed key details, a trailer, and a release date. However, what is making the most noise is not its tombs, impossible jumps, or classic dual pistols, but a word that lately sparks debate anywhere it appears: artificial intelligence.

The controversy began when it was discovered that the game’s Steam page acknowledges the use of AI tools during development. According to the published explanation, these technologies were used as support during early stages, mainly to test ideas and create temporary content. Afterward, that material was reportedly adjusted, improved, or replaced by the human team to preserve the project’s artistic direction.

In other words, AI was not the main artist, but more like a fast draft tool used to speed up certain tests. Even so, many players have not welcomed the news with open arms. In an industry where the value of creative work is increasingly being debated, any mention of AI raises suspicion, criticism, and, of course, endless discussions on social media.

Either way, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis has already sparked its first uncomfortable conversation long before reaching the market. The game is scheduled to launch on February 12, 2027, for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Most of us don’t care if they use AI as long as it doesn’t ruin the game, or force staff out of a job. We love TR enough that we want to see it at its best. Then we want a remake of Tomb Raider 2! 😎
